Margaret Funkhouser & Jason Stumpf with Jonas & Owen Stumpf
Margaret teaches Creative Writing and directs the Writing, Film, and Media Arts Program. A native of Cape Cod, she majored in Dance & American Studies at Wesleyan University and later earned an MFA in Creative Writing from Washington University in Saint Louis. She loves to cook and to take her children to the beach. Jason is Head of the Humanities Department and teaches junior and senior English. He grew up in the hills of Tennessee and was a boarding student for all four years of high school. He studied English at Washington University in Saint Louis and later earned an MFA in creative writing there. He is a runner and banjo enthusiast. Ten-year old Jonas is really into reading, illustration, and Minecraft. His soon-to-be six-year old brother Owen loves to dress up in costumes and build forts with his big brother. The “FunkStumpfs” enjoy walking downtown to the library and farmer’s market, and dancing to music as a family.
Heather and Ron Reid
Originally from Scotland, the Reids have served many years as dorm parents at Walnut Hill. Mrs. Reid trained as an Histologist and took part in medical research in Scotland and New Zealand. She worked in the local hospital in Natick as a Pathologist Assistant until June 2017. This year she hopes to spend time volunteering in the Healthcare field and also have more time with her family. Mrs. Reid was involved in fundraising for Mesothelioma Research for five years. She loves to make scones and have gatherings for the dorm. Every year Mrs. Reid dresses up for Halloween – she said that she is really an actress deep down – and living with such talented and vibrant young people definitely keeps her young! Mr. Reid spent some of his childhood in Jordan, Iraq, and Ireland. He earned his B.Sc. in Mathematics at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, Scotland and his M.Sc. in Mathematics at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. He taught math for many years at Walnut Hill and also at Newbury College, Brookline. Presently, he enjoys working part-time as a web designer. A long, long time ago Mr. Reid played guitar in a rock band for about ten years. Currently, he is a percussionist in his church worship team. Apart from that he is an avid reader who enjoys playing golf and watching soccer.
Ruby Woodside & Vladimir Rosas
Ruby grew up right here at Walnut Hill! As the daughter of two art teachers, she lived in the dorms as a kid, running around campus and looking up to the students. In high school she became a Walnut Hill student herself in visual arts. After graduating and studying Chemistry at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, Ruby joined the Peace Corps. She was sent to Panama where she eventually met her husband Vladimir, a middle school teacher and soccer enthusiast. Vladimir loves to play sports and can often be found playing basketball with the Walnut Hill Students. He studied cultural tourism at the National University of Panama (so if you have any questions about Panama, ask Vladimir!), and education and religion at the University Santa Maria La Antigua. After they moved to the U.S., Ruby earned an MBA and a masters in Environmental Science at Clark University. Ruby works in Boston at a sustainability nonprofit and Vladimir works at Walnut Hill in the mailroom. They both love New Cottage, gardening, and hanging out with their fat & friendly cat Gloria.
